CAIR-Minnesota to Hold Press Conference Monday to Condemn President Trump’s Expanded Muslim and African Ban
(MINNEAPOLIS, MN, 6/5/2025) – The Minnesota chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-Minnesota) will hold a press conference on Monday, June 9 at 3:30 p.m. CT to denounce President Donald Trump’s newly implemented travel and immigration ban affecting 19 countries—primarily Muslim-majority, African, and Southeast Asian nations.
The executive order goes into effect today, June 9, and bars or restricts travel from 12 countries, including Afghanistan, Iran, Somalia, Sudan, Yemen, Eritrea, and Haiti. It also imposes partial visa restrictions on seven others, including Cuba, Venezuela, and Laos. This action revives and expands previous bans targeting Muslim and African nations and now includes additional Asian countries.
Community organizations will join CAIR-Minnesota to speak to the local impact and challenges posed by the ban. While some may include directly impacted individuals, others will highlight the broader implications for Minnesota’s diverse immigrant, refugee, and BIPOC communities.
CAIR-Minnesota is responding by expanding its legal services, offering free immigration consultations, Know Your Rights education, and working with national partners on litigation and advocacy. The organization is also coordinating with community members to share their stories with media outlets and elected officials throughout the week.
CAIR-Minnesota urges Minnesota’s leaders and the public to reject this discriminatory policy and support the NO BAN Act, which would prevent future administrations from imposing similar bans through unchecked executive action.
